Tune Description
Rock Crawler Tune:
This tune was designed to have optimum clutch engagement on take-off (to help have a smoother power transfer to the wheels) to aid getting over blunt objects, Clutch calibrations for shifts were to allow for smooth shifts at light throttle but the more aggressive you are, the more aggressive the shift firmness become, the steady pressure was added to the clutches so when they are fully engaged they will have much more holding power especially when climbing over something or up a hill. All these clutch calibrations were done to limit slip time in those high demanding situations to help keep clutches cooler and improve clutch life.
Engine Calibration
The engine calibrations were to increase low-end throttle response, torque and power to give you the help you need to get over obstacles in the trail, to optimize timing, fuel and lowered fan on/off temp settings so that the engine not only performs better but helps decrease exhaust temps and overall engine temps. Through these calibrations you can expect to see a much better performing engine while still maintaining the reliability and service life Honda is known for!
Clutch Calibration
Cutch calibrations on this tune where designed to give a smooth power transfer from dead stop to fully locked. The clutches have substantial increase in holding power the harder you press on the throttle but still giving a smooth take off much like the Road & Trail tune. All these calibrations to clutch pressure contribute to help keep the clutches cooler and aid in keeping them healthy.
Transmission Calibrations
The transmission calibrations are optimized for those rocky trails and climbing by holding gears longer at light throttle helping with hunting for a gear while climbing those longer hills. Sport mode is best when it is extreme climbing. Although this tune has the name Rock Crawler don't miss understand when you jump in the throttle this tune gets sporty just like the Hot Trail tune.
All FCP tuning comes with reverse shifting in auto mode. This makes it nice having to back out a long trail, in those situations backing up a slick hill or getting out in a mud hole it will shift gears and getting some much-needed wheel spin (Especially in those builds with a lot of gear reduction). Manual mode will give you much more control than factory, it will allow you to upshift earlier and hold the gear you selected. The only time it will down shift is when you come under 15 mph in 6th gear and then it will continue to downshift as you slowdown from there till it reaches first gear. This feature is nice when cruising as it won't downshift when you let off the throttle eliminating engine braking. So, you get full control of your shifts up and down.
